Roped into the Scout Movement at the age of 13yrs in 1920 by Miss J. MacLeod,a disciple of Swami Vivekananda in the First Belur Troop undr the direct Supervision of Late N.N.Bhose ,a pioneer of the Scout Movement in India.
In 1923 he attended the Preliminary Training Course for CubMaster under the leadership of Late R.E.Jacob at Dakshindari ,24pgs. It was the First Traing Camp in Bengal.He also took the Trainhing for Scout Master in 1926 under the leadership of Late N.N.Bhose.
He rendered his service in 1st Belur Pack later 5th Troop in Second Calcutta and in the Presidency Jail to reform the teen culprits.He got special credit from the authority for his remarkable service in Jail.

Since boyhood he had the habit of Good Turn which he performed till his last breath. He was called by Swamiji's of Belur Math to serve the victims of Malaria, Plague, etc. under the supervision of Mrs. MacLeod with other volunteers.This habit inspired him to join St. John's Ambulance Brigade and Indian Red Cross Society and carried sincere responsibilities in many occassions along with his wholehearted efforts for the betterment of Scout Movement. He inspired his Cubs & Scouts to put a mark by rendering service to the society by own cally based on Scouting. He got return and a few members from our Group were known as Foot ball Coach of State & Country, and became renowned figure in Mountaineering World in State ,& Country.
His affection to Cubs & Scouts was unforgettable as a result members of our Group in abroad never forget the Group and always co- operate the group by various means to respect their leader.
Later in the year 1932 he joined in Kidderpore Academy as Games Teacher. He convinced the School Authority and was able to open a Scout Group and 16th IIIrd Calcutta Kidderpore Academy Scout Group under Boy Scouts Association started with a Troop and a Pack under his guidence on 14th July,1934.

One of the teacher of the School Late J.N.Banerjee and one of his friend Late S.K.Basu Mullick. agreed to serve as Scout Master & Cub Master respectively. Late Jagat Prasanna Gangoly was appointed as Group Scout Master. He was awarded Medal of Merit.
Long Service Awardin due time. Under his leadership the Group was expanded in 3Scout Troops ,3 Cub Packs, 2 Rover Crews within short time. Fortunately Late J.N.Banerjee became the Head Master of Kidderpore Academy and became Group Leader Scouts by virtue of his post. It added more fuel to run the Group with Pride and the Group became an example in Bengal Scouting. After 1950 the name of the Boy Scouts was changed as Bharat Scouts & Guides and the Group was known as 16th South Calcutta( Kidderpore Academy) Scout Group under South Calcutta District of Bharat Scouts & Guides,West Bengal. Tradition is maintaing since inception only batton is changing from generation to generation .
It is sure that within very short days the future leaders of the Group will observe the Centenary of the Group. Blessings from the Honoured Pasts will inspire the Presents to keep the flag flying with tradition to introduce the Group as Super in all respect in Scout Movement.
Late Jagat Prasanna Gangoly told to his Group Scouters
" While the scheme need to be explained to the public,it should be clearly understood and impressed upon the minds of the parents that their children should be trained in a pattern which Wii be helpful in building up the character foation and physical fitness and keeping in mind the doctrine of Swami Vivekananda.
Thus it will turn the children to be a " GOOD CITIZEN".
